Asif Zardari Did Not Leave the Country in Anger, Mohsen Naqvi Has Also Returned: Rana Sanaullah
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Advisor and Senator Rana Sanaullah has clarified that President Asif Zardari was not travelling abroad because of his political grievances or anger, and Mohsen Naqvi is already back in the country.
During an appearance at the television show Mere Sawaal of Samaa TV, Rana Sanaullah spoke about the political rhetoric surrounding the issue of the provinces, saying that political speeches in the Sindh Assembly on the issue of Provinces can be regarded as premature. The Chief Minister is fully aware that if he tries to come up with such a legislation, it should be put in Parliament in the form of a resolution, but no resolution about the provinces has been introduced in Parliament yet, he said.

To elaborate, Rana Sanaullah questioned if the federal government would circumvent the Sindh government and impose provincial resolutions on it arbitrarily. He asked who was spreading the rumour that a bill regarding the provinces was to be introduced in Parliament, reminding them that a provincial bill has to come from the government.
There is no such preparations are under way and no bill or constitutional amendment is coming to Parliament on the issue of the provinces, Sanaullah said, noting that in the past similar resolutions were passed in Sindh Assembly two or three times.
He said that the Chief Minister warned the National Assembly like as though a formal resolution were already pending on the floor of the assembly.

As for speculations about federal engagement, Sanaullah pointed out that such media reports on a meeting between Mohsen Naqvi and the President were commonplace. He pointed out that Mohsen Naqvi meets Asif Zardari regularly, and asked rhetorically why shouldn’t people be against such consultation?
Asif Zardari wasn’t on the road because of anger, nor was Mohsen Naqvi, Sanaullah explained, adding the President wasn’t left alone anywhere and Mohsen Naqvi had already arrived in Pakistan and recently gathered at the Prime house.

Reiterating the official position of the Government, Sanaullah said that there was no room for approving any bill, constitutional amendment or resolution without having it brought to the notice of the Prime Minister. He said the federal government wasn’t developing any alternative provincial resolution or bill, and if it was then the federal government was not aware of it but would have to go through government and parliamentary processes at some point.

He ended by saying that the public was in favor of a further devolution of the financial distribution formula (funds are transferred from the federal level to local union councils, down to the local level) to the local union council level.
