Jamaat-e-Islami’s Movement is the Voice of Ordinary Citizens: Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman
MINGORA : Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has said that the party’s movement across the country is the real voice of the common people and commended the youth for their historic fight and unflinching resolve.
In a big public event, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman welcomed the party workers and citizens of the country regarding the historic nationwide strike of yesterday. He said that the traders in Karachi had prepared the ground for the strike and the people of all major cities of interior Sindh, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had flooded the streets with the business activities paralysed in Malakand Division.
The hardships imposed by the Public and Petroleum Levies
The JI Ameer lashed out at the ruling establishment, saying that the lives of the common people were becoming intolerable, as it was difficult for them to get two square meals, going to work was becoming tough, and electricity bills are coming with huge charges.
Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman condemned the imposition of unwarranted and heavy levies on petroleum products that have made the prices of the basic commodities soar to unprecedented levels. He pointed out that motorcyclists and commuters pay an exorbitant amount of taxes for petroleum products alone, which is 35%.

The JI leader said no one was told of these levy extractions, and that such levies have nothing to do with the actual price of fuel. He charged the ruling elite with robbing the people to help themselves to live in luxury.
Mentioning the party’s good record, Rehman said that its sit-ins against Independent Power Producers (IPPs) two years ago had been able to provide some relief to the public. He condemned previous statements by officials that the current load shedding was so devastating that the country was forced to enter into one-sided deals with IPPs.
The capacity payments, debt servicing and profit margins of power companies have been robbed from the public finances, he added, quoting the unelected and inexperienced government ministers who have signed lucrative contracts with all IPPs since 1994.
