Sindh Assembly Passes Resolution Against Division of Province and Creation of New Administrative Units
KARACHI: A resolution for the rejection of any sort of partition of the province or division of Sindh has been overwhelmingly passed by the Sindh Assembly.
This resolution was being moved in the house by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Nisar Ahmed Khuhro and accepted by the members present. In the proceedings, the treasury benches stood up in solidarity, showcasing banners with the slogan of “Sindh is our motherland”.Rejection of Territorial Changes and DivisionAccording to the text of the resolution, Sindh is a singular entity and will remain undivided.
It unequivocally rejects any plan to divide Sindh or change its geographical boundaries, and insists that any such proposal to separate districts, divisions or regions of Sindh is totally unacceptable.
The resolution highlights the rejection of any attempt to divide Sindh by the Federal government and points out that there can never be any compromise on the territorial integrity and unity of the province of Sindh. It states that the assembly would exercise its status completely under the constitution to allow no boundary changes. Federal Rights and Democratic Mandate is a strong affirmation of the constitutional rights and integrity of all federating units and that any discussion of federation restructuring must be strictly within the framework of the Constitution and public will.
Moreover, the resolution urges the Federal government and all the political parties to honor the democratic will of the people of Sindh. It states that the unity of the people of Sindh is beyond political allegiances and emphasis on historical, constitutional and regional identity of Sindh should be guarded with utmost care.The Resolution will be officially sent to the President of Pakistan, the Prime Minister, the Chairman of the Senate and the Speaker of the National Assembly.
