Distribute Wheat to Provinces Immediately: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar Directs PASSCO
ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar presided upon a high level review meeting in Islamabad to discuss the status of wheat stocks and provide uninterrupted food security to the country.
In the meeting, the authorities reiterated their commitment to implement the decision to import up to 1mn metric tons of wheat with the first tranche of 250,000 metric tons.
Import a timeline and coordination.
The first shipment of wheat is expected to arrive in November, as per the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office. The Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has been ordered to start importation process at the earliest.
The Deputy Prime Minister commended coordination and cooperation amongst the provinces, the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, and the Ministry of Commerce in the wheat import strategy.
Instructions to PASSCO and Provinces
Ishaq Dar directed PASSCO to immediately make wheat available to the provinces as per the quota approved by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC).
In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister called on provincial authorities to timely pay and withdraw the allocated wheat stocks to ensure the market stability.
