Parliament and Provincial Assemblies Can Create New Provinces with Two-Thirds Majority: Azam Nazeer Tarar

LONDON: Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Azam Nazeer Tarar has said that if Parliament and provincial assemblies feel that it is essential to create new provinces, they can do that with a two-thirds majority vote.

In a statement to the press in London, Azam Nazeer Tarar said the Prime Minister has made repeated offers to the opposition to engage in constructive political discussion. In this context, he said the most pressing issue in Azad Kashmir in the region was the timely holding of elections.

The Law Minister pointed out that the elections in Azad Kashmir were held peacefully, transparently and orderly.

He also added that the prerogative of choosing the Azad Kashmir Prime Minister is with PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and said that new provinces can be created if it is felt that there is a need in the Parliament and Provincial Assemblies by 2/3 votes.

In London, Azam Nazeer Tarar said the Prime Minister had made several offers for constructive political dialogue to the opposition. Talking about the political scenario of the region, he said the foremost challenge in Azad Kashmir is to hold elections in time.

He also pointed out that the decision to appoint Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir rightly belonged to PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif.
