First Meeting of Tripartite Committee Under Makkah Defense Agreement to Be Held Today in Istanbul
ISLAMABAD: The first meeting of the tripartite committee established under Makkah Joint Defense Agreement between Pakistan, Turkey and Saudi Arabia will be held in Istanbul today.
The high-stakes session is attended by top civilian and military officials from the three countries. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir are representing Pakistan in the event. Foreign, Defense Ministers and chiefs of general staffs of Turkey and Saudi Arabia are also at the meeting.
Strategic consultations and high-level arrivals.
Deputy PM Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir are already in Turkey. The high-level consultations will be particularly focused on enhancing the level of defense and security cooperation between Pakistan, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
The three-part session will discuss the security landscape in the world and the ways to enhance collective defense capacity of the three countries. The issue of joint production in the defense industry and bilateral technological cooperation will also be discussed.

Ahead of formal proceedings, Deputy PM Ishaq Dar attended a bilateral meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. In this context, Pakistan reiterated its steadfast support for ongoing initiatives for regional peace and stability and was pleased with the ongoing development and enhancement of bilateral relations in the ongoing talks.
During his visit to Istanbul, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar also visited the shrine of Hazrat Abu Ayyub al-Ansari and performed prayers of utmost reverence and supplications for peace and prosperity of Pakistan, its people and unity of the Muslim Ummah of the world.

In a statement on the historic partnership, Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister, pointed out that the strategic partnership between Pakistan and Turkey is a good assurance of their common progress and security. He pointed out that the Makkah Agreement has re-affirmed their strategic brotherhood, which has been reaffirmed with Pakistan and Turkey sharing the same hands with Saudi Arabia and marked the beginning of synchronized mutual protection and defence muscles.
