Delay in Funds, Israeli Army Hints at Reserve Force Cuts Starting September
TEL AVIV: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have threatened to take direct action from September cutting reserve forces due to the Israeli Ministry of Finance’s failure to transfer funds in a timely manner.
The dire financial situation will likely result in budget cuts in Israel’s intelligence community, as well, according to senior Israeli military sources. The long delay in payments could be used to sabotage Israeli defense preparations and readiness against Iran, officials said.
Military officials also warned that the “deadlock” over the budget is threatening urgent military contracts and agreements with the United States and jeopardizing critical arms deals.The military leadership has thus made it clear that much-needed stringent and urgent measures will have to be taken from the start of September to deal with the escalating financial deficit.
