WASHINGTON: According to reports, the trial of the alleged mastermind behind the September 11 terrorist attacks will begin in June before a military tribunal.

A judge ruled on the pending court case, with several prominent U.S. media outlets releasing reports based on that decision. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who was captured in Pakistan in March 2003, is considered to be one of al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden’s closest and most important associates.

Khalid Sheikh was picked up by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and was detained in so-called secret CIA facilities for three years before being transferred to the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba military detention facility in 2006.
