Revelation of Previous Fire Incident at Islamabad’s PIMS Hospital a Month Prior
ISLAMABAD: A fire had already taken place at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital in Islamabad about a month ago, which had been revealed.
As per the official news, a fire accident occurred at the reception area of the PIMS Nursing Hostel at 3 o’clock in the morning on 6th July, which led to the damage of three sofas in the reception lounge.The documents say that in the incident in July, there was no loss of life, and 78 female students living in the hostel were safe.
The actual cause of the fire was not determined, however, as there were no reports from electrical or forensic experts. Moreover, it was recorded that the hostel had totally no critical safety facilities like CCTV cameras, fire alarms and an evacuation plan.
After the incident, a committee of investigation has recommended action be initiated against the hostel warden and security personnel of the department, whereas several lower-level employees were said to be suspended on the basis of the committee’s findings.On the contrary, Federal Minister for Health Mustafa Kamal said that he had not heard of the fire at the PIMS hospital on July 6.
The incident has come to the fore following a large-scale disaster earlier today, in which a serious fire raged in the nursery of the gynaecology ward at PIMS hospital, killing 14 newborn babies. The fire occurred at 0645 AM when the compressor of an air conditioner exploded, and was observed by rescue sources, leaving 14 precious lives behind and only 1 infant rescued.
