Schedule Issued for Election of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister

MUZAFFARABAD:The official election agenda for the election of Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has been officially released.

The election of the new Prime Minister will be held in the AJK Legislative Assembly on Thursday, August 27, the new Prime Minister will be sworn in on the same evening.

Election Timetable and Procedure
The released schedule says nomination papers may be submitted by the candidates starting from August 27 from 9:30 AM till 10:30 AM. The papers will be checked between 10:30 AM to 10:45 AM after which the list of candidates will be published at 11:00 AM.

The candidates will be able to withdraw their nominations from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM and the final list of candidates will be published at 12:00 PM. The voting for the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir will begin from 12:30 PM with the oath of the new Prime Minister to be taken from 4:00 PM till 5:00 PM.

In the AJK Legislative Assembly, 32 members of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) are backed by the party while 14 members of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) are supporting the party. AJK PML-N President Shah Ghulam Qadir is in a good position to be elected Prime Minister, given the numerical strength, as PML-N nominated him.

Earlier on Aug 24, PML-N’s Secretary General Chaudhry Tariq Farooq became Speaker of the Legislative Assembly with 32 votes and Ahmad Raza Qadri took 32 votes for the post of Deputy Speaker. PPP’s Speaker candidate Qasim Majeed had got 13 votes while Deputy Speaker candidate Aamir Abdul Ghaffar Lone had also got 13 votes, with one PPP vote rejected.
