Brutal Killing of Laborers in Balochistan Sparks Outrage as Leadership Condemns Violence
QUETTA: The brutal killing of non-local labourers on an under-construction road project near Saranan area in Pishin district of Balochistan has been condemned by the provincial leaders who vowed that those who shed innocent blood will be brought to justice.
Five workers were killed and another seriously injured on a road construction site in the Sulaiman Zai area by some gunmen who were wearing masks and hoods, police and official reports said. The victims were reportedly from Punjab and were involved in earning a livelihood. The police confirmed that a case had been lodged in the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) police station under murder and terrorism charges while law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the area to trace the perpetrators.
The attack was strongly condemned by Provincial Leadership of Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, who said this attack was a reflection of a brutal mind set and was a targeted attack against innocent workers.
He stressed the need to protect the labourers who are working for the development of the region and the construction of infrastructure and explained that the state institutions will continue the counter-terrorism activity with all their strength. Provincial authorities and spokespeople also condemned the killings, which left their own people’s lives in shambles, and emphasized that the attacks were designed to intimidate and slow down development projects, but wouldn’t deter the government or the people.
There have been heightened security operations throughout the area to ensure security and hold the actors responsible for such acts to account.
