March 2027 Deadline Set for Completion of Gujranwala Yellow Line Mass Transit Project
LAHORE: In recent times, the required deadline for the completion of Gujranwala Yellow Line Mass Transit Project has been fixed by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif as March 2027, making it clear that the project must be executed speedily and on time.
The CM Maryam Nawaz, while leading a special high level review meeting on progress of work on Gujranwala Yellow Line and Faisalabad Mass Transit, got a detailed briefing of the progress of the works by relevant authorities while observing the construction process through drone video from the sky. The 31.5-kilometre-long Gujranwala Yellow Line is supposed to have 25 stations, 2 of which will be underground stations, 12 underpasses, 35 kilometres of service roads, no signal-based U-turns, and integrated infrastructure, officials reported.
Officials briefing the meeting said that almost a third of the construction work was nearing completion, with 1,233 utility poles and 552 transformers installed. The project involves the installation of 15,000 feet of sewerage pipelines, 12,000 feet of water supply lines, and 11,000 feet of gas pipelines, along with the completion of about 40% of the drainage network, which is approximately 62 kilometers long.
The 20.3-kilometers long Faisalabad Mass Transit System will have 11.1 kilometers of overhead bridges, 1,835 trees to be replanted, 15 kilometers of Sui gas lines and 12 bus stations. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz highlighted the need to take stringent measures to ensure environmental safeguards and said that the records show about 5,000 trees are being replanted on both the transit projects. She insisted on the authorities working around the clock with three shifts, saying project timelines should not be prolonged as they need to speed up to reduce public inconvenience.
